About our hardwood frames:
Manufactured in Hickory, NC, the foundation of the piece and must provide the base to which all the upholstered components are applied. It must also stand up to many years of use in your home. It's knowing that time-honored classic traditional frame construction will bring comfort and support to your living room, and endure through generations of family use.
A) Our frames are 5/4” kiln dried maple or poplar hardwood (not cheap plywood), that is obtained from certified local lumber sources. The joints of the frame are double doweled and glued with a non-toxic glue to create a strong and secure frame.
Classic traditional joint construction is one of the ways to judge high-quality upholstery. It's the first question to answer when purchasing a piece of covered furniture, wanting to know "what's underneath?"
B) The corners and other high stress areas are reinforced with hardwood corner blocks that are both glued and screwed into place for additional strength.
C) Heavy gauge steel springs in the seat are made from recycled steel and tied into place in 8 directions to stabilize them, where most manufacturers only tie in 4 directions. This construction provides the most stable and comfortable seat available, and we also include steel bands and strapping to add additional support.
D) Sinuous wire springs, strengthened by horizontal cables provide durable and comfortable back support. The springs are covered by a protective thin cover, a layer of cushioning and a soft layer of fiber before the leather or fabric cover is applied.
E) The front seat support rail is padded with an edge roll of foam and then covered with a layer of cushioning fiber under the leather or fabric cover.
F) Our standard spring fiber seat cushion feature 3” springs imbedded in the soy-foam containing core. Layers of pillow fiber surround the foam and spring core to provide a luxuriously comfortable, yet supportive seat.
G) The arms and outside of the chair are padded with 1/2” layer of fiber before the leather or fabric is applied to make sure that every surface you touch is soft yet durable.
